BIG OPPORTUNITIES FOR SMALL WELLS
COIL TUBING ASSISTED ARTIFICIAL LIFT
ZEiTECS offers an artificial lift system similar to the conventional beam pump system but where the sucker rods are replaced with coiled tubing and fluid is produced to surface through the coiled tubing. This technology is especially applicable for a) deliquification of gas wells and b) reinstatement of wells suspended due to casing corrosion. The technology has been field tested in Argentina and the USA..
Gas Well Deliquification
The use of traditional sucker rod technology to deliquify natural gas wells or coal bed methane wells is limited by the dimensions of the tubing and pump size; separate conduits are required for liquid and gas streams. In a typical well configuration using sucker rods liquids are produced up the rod-tubing annulus and gas is produced between concentric tubings.
The ZEiTECS technology permits the fluids to be produced up the coiled tubing and the gas in the coil tubing – tubing annulus while the coiled tubing is reciprocated using a standard surface pump jack. This system permits the operator to deliquify the well and to continue production long after the gas velocities have become sub-critical thereby maximizing gas ultimate recovery. This can be achieved without installing additional tubing so can be retro-fitted in tubings as small as 2 7/8” OD.
Small Bore Oil Well Reinstatement
Wells often have to be closed in when the production casing integrity is compromised. Operators and regulatory bodies require that reservoir fluids do not pollute shallower horizons nor create potential well containment issues. Often an operator will install a smaller casing and continue to produce through narrower tubing. This production will be aided by an artificial lift technology. Downsizing of well dimensions becomes impractical when the wellbore casing size reaches 2 7/8” because most downhole pump systems cannot be installed in such small dimensions.
ZEiTECS offers CT LIFT to address this challenge for 2 7/8” and 2 3/8” cased wells. Coiled tubing is installed in the well after the existing tubing-casing annulus has been cemented and the reservoir reperforated. A CT Lift pump is installed on an anchor below the production zone and production commences up the inside of the coil as the coil tubing is reciprocated using a pump jack at surface.
